Strawberries and Summer Go Together

A popular season favourite, strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants, and are definitely one of the best go-to fresh treats!

Tips on how to pick and store strawberries

Selection: Look for plump, firm, red and shiny fruits with their green leaf cap attached. Strawberries do not ripen after they are harvested, so it is best to select the ripe ones without any white/green areas on the flesh. Avoid squishy fruits, too.

Storage: Whatever you do, do not wash strawberries until you are ready to eat them. They are best consumed within one to two days for maximum freshness and nutrition, but they will keep for a few more days if kept in the fridge.

Freezing: Wash strawberries and remove the leaves, spread in a single layer on a pan and freeze; once solid, you can transfer them in freezer safe bags. Fresh strawberries can be frozen for up to 6 months. If you want to retain their bright crimson colour, sprinkle them with lemon juice before freezing.
