Nothing Says Summer Like Cherries!
These sweet and refreshing fruits signal the arrival of summer and they can be enjoyed from May to September.
Here are a few tips on how you can enjoy these plump and juicy fruits.
Selection: When it comes to red cherries, depth of color matters more than the color–the deeper and darker the color, the better. Bright green stems indicate freshness, but lack of stem does not indicate otherwise. Fruit should be firm and wrinkles near the steam can mean that it has sat at room temperature, which could still mean it is sweet but not at the peak of its freshness.
Storage: Cold storage is key. Wrap cherries in a plastic bag and place in the refrigerator as soon as you can. Avoid washing prior to storage.
Eating Tip: Cherries are best enjoyed fresh. Rinse right before eating. They can also be frozen after removing the pits
